Department of Defense, through The Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service program, offers STEM scholarships to incoming and current college students. This is a merit based opportunity for aspiring and pasionate individuals, dedicated to driving innovation and research in STEM fields.
Recipients receive full tuition coverage in exchange for commitment to work as a DOD civilian. Scholars comit to one year of DOD civilian employment for every year of SMART-sponsered degree funding.
NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement (OSTEM) offers paid internship opportunities to high school and college-level students to gain practical work experience while working side-by-side with mentors who are researchers, engineers or other professionals. Internships may be part time or full time on a NASA center or facility.
Three sessions are offered annually. For 2026, application deadlines are in February, May and Septeber.
Regeneron Science Talent Search
Regeneron STS (Science Talent Search) is a prestigious science competition for senior high school students focused on recognizing, inspiring and engaging the nation’s most promising future STEM leaders.
Anually, about 2500 high school seniors from around the country are participating in the program. The competition recognizes 300 student scholars and their schools and invites 40 student finalists to Washington DC to participate in the final evaluation and display of their work and meet with well known scientists and government leaders. The finalists compete for about $ 3 milion in awards.
National STEM Excellence Scholarship Program
The National STEM Excellence Scholarship Program, administered by Scholarship America, seeks to identify and award America’s most talented STEM students. Awardees receive a one-time $10,000 scholarship to support their continuing studies.Up to 100 awards will be granted.
Applicants can be high school seniors, high school graduates or current college undergraduates in US seeking a degree in a STEM related area.
SBB Research Group Foundation STEM Scholarship
The SBB Research Group STEM Scholarship empowers students to create new opportunities for society through their pursuit of higher learning in STEM fields.
Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student at a US college, pursuing a STEM degree and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Applicants are reviewed on quarterly basis and three scholarships of $2,500 each are awarded per quarter.
